GOBINDAPUR (JAGATSINGHPUR): Amid reports that the state government would restart land acquisition here in the proposed Posco plant area after the assembly session ends on April 6, local villagers on Wednesday restarted protest dharnas.
About 1,200 villagers, including women and children, joined the indefinite dharna at Gobindapur.
“We will continue dharna round-the-clock to protest police entry to acquire our lands. Three villagers Narahari Sahoo, Tarun Mandal and Manas Jena have already sacrificed their lives while fighting for saving the lands. The police instead of taking action against the killers of the three persons are trying to arrest anti-Posco villagers and has foisted false cases against them,” said Abhaya Sahoo, president of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) while addressing the meeting.
Leaders from different political parties and civil society bodies addressed the meeting on Wednesday, held near the police camp at Gobindapur.
Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police (SP) Satyabrata Bhoi said, “Land acquisition work will start soon. We have deployed two platoons of police in Gobindapur to maintain law and order.”
